I’ll start this weeks post with the Louisiana Fire Department visit. I don’t know if Louisiana knows how fortunate we are to have such a great group of VOLUNTEERS. I attended their meeting and got to introduce myself, share some thoughts I have about how we can ALL work at moving Louisiana forward. Listening to the report given by Chief Clinton about the fire fought last week in the most treacherous of conditions gave me pause to truly appreciate the sacrifice that team gives us! As Mayor I look forward to working with them closely to make sure they have the tools and trainings they need to do their jobs effectively and more importantly safely. I also will make certain they know how much their community appreciates the work they do!

Another visit I made was to the Louisiana Public Library. Wow, just wow. What an asset to Louisiana, truly a gem not only for his historical value but for the value it adds to our community as a resource for education, research and knowledge. It was built in 1905 with a $10,000 grant from the Carnegie Foundation. That in itself is a great story! 121 years later the facility has thrived, grown and improved. It is funded by the City but a great group of volunteers created the Friends of the Library. The “friends” is a non-profit group that helps see to it that the Library staff and building are at top notch operating form. What a great coordination of efforts between the City and that board and staff! As I understand it hasn’t always been an amiable partnership, but as Mayor and as a citizen of Louisiana I see the benefit of the Library and want to make every effort to heal that partnership and do what we can to that it continues another 100 years!
I’m looking forward to next week’s visits and sharing those with you. Again, I’m so appreciative of the support from everyone. It continues to give me confidence that I’ve made the right decision to be Mayor of Louisiana, to represent our citizens, organizations and businesses to make a brighter future for all of us.
