*Ward One: Meet Your Candidate Emily Sitton
Emily Sitton was born and raised just across the river in Pittsfield, Illinois, spending countless weekends in Louisiana with her grandparents John and Sue Sitton. In 2019, she moved to Louisiana to help care for her grandmother, Sue Sitton. After Sue’s passing in 2020, Emily chose to remain a resident of Louisiana and continued working with her family’s business, Pittsfield Save-A-Lot. When the business closed in 2023, Emily transitioned to the Louisiana Chamber of Commerce, where she successfully organized the 2023 Colorfest—one of the most well-received community events of the year.
Emily and her mother, Chris, remain actively involved throughout Pike County, assisting local police and fire departments with fundraising efforts. Emily also volunteers with the John Cotton Memorial Animal Shelter, where she has dedicated herself to networking for the shelter’s dogs and cats. Her efforts have led to numerous animals finding loving homes or being moved safely to rescue partners.
Recently, Emily launched Bark Buddies, a community-driven initiative designed to work closely with rescues to increase visibility for shelter animals. Through Bark Buddies, the team has secured donations including beds, a digital camera, and a substantial amount of food for the animals. Emily’s compassion for the shelter animals drives her commitment to being their voice and helping each one find the home they deserve.
As a candidate for City Council, Emily has clear goals for serving the people of Louisiana. She intends to continue advocating for the shelter and improving the resources available for the city’s animals. Equally important to her is ensuring that every citizen feels heard. Emily is committed to sitting down with residents, listening to their concerns, and working toward solutions that reflect the needs and values of the community.
Your voice matters—and Emily is ready to listen, serve, and work for the future of Louisiana.
