Cleaning House?

Mark Haddock for Mayor

I’ve been approached repeatedly about “cleaning house” at City Hall. It is my intent, and likely one of my top priorities during my first week as Mayor to meet with each and every employee at City Hall. I’m going to ask each of them to provide me with what they perceive to be as their job description and a self performance evaluation. I’m unsure if any employee has a clear idea of what is expected of them, what benchmarks of performance they need to achieve or what training and resources might be available to them.

As a new ‘Manager’ I think that it only fair to share with each employee and department head my expectations and timelines for these things and allow everyone the opportunity to earn their position. Together we’ll set some goals, expections and evaluation dates. At evaluation time, we’ll meet again to review and assess performance. In my experience this process provides a very clear picture to both manager and employee as to suitability of further employment in the position.
